Re: Tentative 2020 Summer Opening Date

Dear Parents,

On behalf of the staff at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina, I first want to thank you all for your patience and understanding during this difficult time of uncertainty as our operations have been closed. I know that our Club members, and families are in our thoughts daily as we continue to strategize the next steps of how we are there for our Club and our community.

With the announcement of school closures to remain in effect through the remainder of this academic year, we have also decided that we should remain closed as well for the safety of our staff, members and their families. However, the Governor has put forward a plan of action to stagger in which the state will open and operate in the future. With hearing this phased plan, and us working with local and state entities, we continue to monitor information on a daily basis so that we can make the best decisions to operate as we can.

All of this to say that we plan to begin our 2020 Summer Program in Harnett, Chatham and Lee Counties beginning on Monday, June 8, 2020. This is a tentative plan schedule and could change based on several variables circling around COVID-19. From day one our plans have been to open up to our members and families, but at a time it is safe to do so. Safety will be the number one priority for us opening up our facilities in June.

Our organization has taken extra steps to ensure that when we open, we are operating in a safe and efficient manner. We have been approved to operate through the state of NC to be an Emergency Child Care facility, and this requires safety practices that we will let you all know as the time comes for us to open. Some of these are scheduled hand washing times, taking temperatures of staff and members before entering the facility, no parents or visitors inside the facility and more. One of the major steps we are taking for the safety of everyone involved and to practice social distancing is that we will only serve at half capacity for the summer program at all of our locations. Extra training is being provided to all employees of our organization through these next steps so that we can better assist during this time.

If you have already registered your child/children for the summer program this year, please be expecting a call from your child’s Club Director this week. They will ask you a couple of questions regarding moving forward. If you have not registered your child/children for the program, then we will be giving times to register and that announcement will be made over the next two weeks. Please note that since we will be operating at half capacity this summer, we will not be able to accommodate all families. When the registration does open, we will offer the remainder of spots at a first come, first serve basis. More details will come out soon regarding this.

Please keep an eye out on our social media’s facebook page, our Remind app and your email as we will be providing updates on our 2020 Summer Program and our 2020-2021 Academic After School Program as we can.

Thank you all for your continued support of our Clubs, and we hope to see you all soon! Regards,

Brandon Kivett
