O.T. Sloan Park Club (Sanford/Lee County)

The inaugural Club for Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Carolina.

About the O.T. Sloan Park Club

In 1995, concerned community leaders met to address the increased teen pregnancy, school dropout, and juvenile justice crime rates for Lee County children. They chose a proven national program to help battle the issues.

Boys & Girls Clubs of America began working with them to develop a local organization. In 1995, St. Clair Elementary School was designated as the first site for the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sanford/Lee County and the Club received a Charter in December for 124 members. In 1997, the Club moved from St. Clair Elementary School to Jonesboro Elementary. During that time, the Board of Directors decided to construct a stand-alone facility. In 1999, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Sanford/Lee County opened a 17,000 square foot Club at 1414 Bragg Street: the O.T. Sloan Park Boys & Girls Club.

The Club Today

Over the years, the O.T. Sloan Park Club has served thousands of children in Lee County and, today, it continues to do so with an average daily attendance of 300 Lee County children. The Club operates five days per week throughout the academic year and all summer long. In addition to Boys & Girls Clubs programs, the Club and its staff serve meals to children every evening after school and twice per day all summer long.

Jason Macchia has been a lifelong part of the Boys & Girls Club movement. As the Assistant Executive Director of the Burroughs Community Center in Bridgeport CT, he partnered with Wakeman Boys & Girls Club to create a branch in an underserved community. He served as the program director for the site until 2011.  In 2010 construction began for a new facility on the community center’s land to serve as a free-standing Boys & Girls Club.  Jason worked through the design and outfitting phases of the project and was chosen to be the clubhouse’s first Unit Director when it opened in 2011. In 2017 he moved to Paris Texas to take on the role of CEO for the Boys & Girls Club of the Red River Valley serving Lamar and Red River Counties. In March of 2025 Jason came to Sanford NC to take on his next opportunity at the OT Sloan Clubhouse.  When not at a Club Jason enjoys spending time with his wife and two daughters.
